Small and lightweight motors require compact, high-efficiency insulation systems. Common materials include Nomex, DMD, and Mylar.
1. Nomex
- Aramid paper by DuPont
- Excellent thermal (up to 220°C), electrical, and mechanical properties
- Flexible and chemically resistant
- Ideal for small motors, transformers, cables, and electronics

2. DMD (Dacron-Mylar-Dacron)
- Triple-layer laminate: affordable, flexible, with good electrical insulation
- Moisture-resistant, used widely in motor and transformer insulation
- Lower thermal and mechanical resistance compared to Nomex

3. Mylar
- Lightweight polyester with aluminum coating
- Good for average temperature and humidity
- Flexible but less tear-resistant
Radiology Film as Insulation
- Not recommended: brittle, low thermal and moisture resistance, poor electrical insulation, short lifespan
Choosing the Right Insulation
- Depends on temperature, moisture, cost, weight, and mechanical stress
- Nomex: best for high-heat and stress
- DMD: best for flexibility and cost
- Mylar: suitable for compact, low-demand uses
- Radiology film: not recommended due to safety risks
